Decluttering tips for your spring wardrobe

With the weather getting warmer and your outfits lightening up, March is one of the best opportunities to clean out and declutter your wardrobe.

Is your closet becoming a little too cluttered? Winter coats, sizable shoe collections and plenty of rarely worn items can all take up valuable space in your closet, making it cramped and cluttered by the beginning of spring.

With the weather getting warmer and your outfits lightening up, spring is one of the best opportunities to clean out and declutter your wardrobe. The coat you wore all winter might be warm and comfortable, but it's also far too thick to keep in your closet. Winter coats and trousers use thick fabric that can take up a lot of valuable storage space when they're left on the hanger.

Save space in your closet by using vacuum storage bags to store your winter coats, trousers and other bulky clothing. By vacuum packing your clothing, you can fit it into less than half of the space it would take up when it's hung in your closet. In addition to this, use the beginning of spring take a look at the clothes you wear but actually never put on. Old clothes can be donated, while more valuable clothes can be sold on eBay or to your local thrift store.

Once you've thinned out, start organising. Organise your closet so that space is used intelligently. Fold and stack items that you don't mind ironing like t-shirts and underwear.  Keep rarely worn clothing in storage containers so that your hangers are reserved for items you wear frequently.

Take effort to put your clothes back in your cupboard carefully. The easiest way to create a cluttered, disorganised cupboard is to stuff clothes back in as soon as you get home from work. After a few weeks you will be back where you started, with a cupboard that's disorganised and full of clutter. Take care when putting clothes back, find the right hanger for you coat, cardigan or shirt and never put dirty clothes back in a cupboard.

If your cupboard is bursting at the seams, a great way to create more space is to transfer some of your clothes and shoes to separate storage racks. Add a shoe rack and coat rack and to your hallway to create extra space.
