Beginning of the year sale - is it a good idea?

The New Year is already upon us. If you’re selling your home then now is likely going to be one of your busiest times.

Rightmove reported that over 1 and half million people visited their website between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day alone!

This means anyone selling a property shouldn’t take their foot off the pedal so to speak. Because there is a good chance you could still get interest, the winter months might be quieter on average when compared to the rest of the year but there is still plenty of viewings and successful moves do happen during this time.

In fact, many people will hold off moving till the winter months because it’s quieter and there is less competition. So what should sellers or landlords do to capitalise on this time of year?

New Year Opening Days

We already know there is a lot of interest in housing even during the Christmas and New Year periods but while you can still offer viewings during this time it’s understandable that many people likely won’t have time to actually view anything.

Even if someone is interested they likely won’t want to arrange a viewing between Christmas and New Year. However, you can instead offer an open day early into the New Year, this way you can capitalise on the interest and get people into your property early.

An open day also helps you avoid the difficulty of setting up multiple viewings for different people.

New Year Opportunities

Many of the people looking to move in the new year whether it’s renting or buying will be people who either need to move relatively quickly or will be people who have tried in the previous year without luck.

You’d be surprised how many people will start searching as soon as they can so by getting your home ready as soon as possible you could easily attract interest. There could easily be a high-demand but low supply situation in the early New Year so don’t miss out.

You could even use your cosy winter decorations to great effect. Make sure to take plenty of photos and use them to market your house throughout winter. Ensure it’s warm, cosy and inviting from the cold.

The New Year Can Be A Great Time To Sell!

So, let’s answer the question posed by the title, shall we? What you should really be focusing on for your sale is the early months of the New Year!

So get your home in order, and prepare to kick 2019 off with a bang!
