Katy Perry's Radio 1 Big Weekend 2017

Katy Perry's Radio 1 Big Weekend 2017

Katy Perry has been revealed as one of the headline acts set to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull. Taking place on 27th-28th May, the UK chart topper will join Little Mix, Kings Of Leon and rapper Stormzy to name a few.

Discussing her performance at the upcoming annual event, Katy said: “Radio 1’s Big Weekend is always a blast and I’m so happy to be able to make it to Hull alongside the incredible line-up. Grimmy has told me all about Hull and we’ve already set up a date to the Yorkshire pudding factory!” Nick Grimshaw announced the news on his breakfast show and commented: “Well happy Katy Perry is coming to Hull! She's one of my favourite pop stars to see and also loves a good night out which I'm sure Hull will provide!"

Hosted by Radio 1 DJ’s, Radio 1’s Big Weekend is Europe’s largest free-ticketed festival and is held in a different destination every year. This year, it will be heading to Hull to coincide with the UK City of Culture celebrations for 2017 and will give 50,000 fans the opportunity to enjoy performances from some of the biggest and freshest acts. Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1, says: “Radio 1's Big Weekend just got bigger. The young audiences in Hull and around the UK are in for a treat from one of the planet’s greatest performers."

Katy may be performing in front of thousands but we think she’ll be used to it by now. The talented lady first shot to fame in 2008 with her iconic, ‘I kissed a girl’ tune and has since become the first artist to surpass 75 million digital downloads and is the only female artist to have a staggering five No.1s from the same album.

The American born singer has also received many awards including three Guinness World Records, and was also included in the Forbes list of ‘Top Earning Women in Music’. She has also sold over 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide as well as having her own perfume line. Moreover, in July 2012, she released an autobiographical documentary, which concentrated on her life as a touring artist. She followed this with a second DVD in 2015 focusing on “The Prismatic World Tour Live”.

Earlier this year, Katy also released her single Chained to the Rhythm and has stated that she will not be rushing her fifth album, adding: "I'm just having a lot of fun, but experimenting and trying different producers, and different collaborators and different styles.”

Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be broadcast live on Radio 1, streamed in vision at bbc.co.uk/radio1. All performances will be available to watch live and on demand on Radio 1’s BBC iPlayer channel. Katy will also be performing at this year’s Glastonbury in June. We wish Katy the best of luck!
